Gaia Mobilij é cantora, pianista, acordeonista e compositora oriunda de Itália. Durante os dias do Womex em Lisboa, Gaia passou na Rádio Olisipo para apresentar o seu último disco “Disad’ttata” e anunciar os seus próximos lançamentos. Nesta conversa descobrimos uma viajadora apaixonada que coloca na sua música as suas experiências de viagens, as aprendizagens e o seu encanto pela música de vários países do mundo, incluindo a própria música tradicional de Itália. DISAD’TTATA is the first solo album of GAIA MOBILIJ.

It has been realized during 7 month in very different countries and conditions : courtyards of houses in Quintana Roo , an apartment in Mexico city, an Indian home studio , master’s house in Calcutta in India, and a traditional trullo construction in Salento ( south of Italy ) .

Luizga, iZem – Yemamaya (2022) (EP)

At the crossroads between Brazil and Europe, between electronic rhythms and acoustic song, “Yemamaya” was crafted by Luizga, rising star of Brazilian music (Graveola, TiãoDuá, Rosa Neon) and nomadic DJ and producer iZem (Mayra Andrade, Elza Soares, Guts).

At a time when Brazil is going through a period of great social and political tension, this EP suggests taking a step back. “Yemamaya” is a positive and joyful manifesto, which explicitly pays tribute to the country’s Afro-Brazilian and indigenous heritage. It also contemplates a future inspired by the philosophical heritage of these communities and open to the rest of the world.

This project, which gave birth to the release of the EP “Yemamaya”, brings together two nomadic artists whose heart swings between Brazil and Europe, electronic rhythms and acoustic songs. Luizga brings his talent as a melodist, composer and instrumentalist, and iZem this urban and hybrid sound that is enhanced by electronic arrangements.

They first met in Lisbon, on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, the great protagonist of the first single Yemamaya, released in the summer of 2022 and accompanied by a videoclip. Yemamaya is a made up word which was whispered to Luizga in his sleep. It’s a reference to Yemanjá, the divinity of the sea in Afro-Brazilian culture, but also to the figure of the mother (“iya” means mother in Yoruba).
Luizga grew up under the influence of Afro- brazilian cultures. His music and his spirituality are imbued with it. Yemamaya is a healing cry and one of liberation. A spiritual awakening through joy and movement, an ode to the sacred spirit of this goddess. The sea infuses vital energy, it consoles, restores courage and connects the continents.

Txaísmo, second single released in September 2022, is a musical journey through the depths of the Amazon rainforest. Luizga stayed with the indigenous Hunikuin community and brought back this
reggae imbued with ancient spirituality which we can catch a glimpse of in the videoclip dedicated to this community. Under its positive and joyful tone, this song, which features the rapper Oreia and the
leader Txana Tuin Hunikin, highlights these minorities’ ability to exist and resist despite the terrible injustices which they are victims of in Brazil.

It’s also a shared passion for Caetano Veloso and the taste for Brazilian songs of the 70s that brought the two protagonists of this adventure together. It gives the EP a sense of fusion and of hybridization inherited from the greats of the Tropicalia movement. Creating a hybrid, timeless and universal sound is incidentally the leitmotif of iZem’s work; a sound he weaves through his many collaborations with Latin American composers and singers like Josyara, Giovani Cidreira and Jimena Angel.

Archivo Digital: “Alicia Camacho Garcés: La Caracola”, es un proyecto autogestionado que busca disponibilizar el patrimonio musical e intelectual de la folklorista, intelectual, activista y cantaora afrocolombiana musulmana Alicia Camacho Garcés, compuesto por una veintena de canciones de su autoría y una serie de entrevistas testimoniales, en todas las cuales va plasmando su pensamiento cimarrón cantado. 

El proyecto es coordinado por la música, socióloga y maestra en estudios latinoamericanos, Lorena Ardito Aldana, el etnomusicólogo y docente Michael Birenbaum-Quintero, y el custodio del legado de la maestra Alicia, el cultor y trabajador afrobonaverense Mauricio Fidel Camacho, su hijo.

Una incómoda cimarrona remece el fuego de la memoria. Es la maestra y activista afrodescendiente Alicia Camacho Garcés (1940-2017), quien a 5 años de haber partido de este mundo, sigue conmoviéndonos con su rebeldía, su compromiso y sensibilidad. Una mujer negra que luchó toda su vida por defender el legado ancestral africano, contra el racismo, la inferiorización, la guerra y el olvido, en un país cuya historia está teñida por la sangre y el miedo, pero también por la insumisión y la resistencia más fecunda. Una lumbre que revive a través de su música y pensamiento, para remover la conciencia afrodiaspórica, desde su amado Pacífico sur colombiano.

ELISA RODRIGUES REGRESSA COM O SINGLE “SONHAR”

Elisa Rodrigues regressa às canções com a edição do single “Sonhar”, um dueto onde se faz acompanhar por Rita Onofre, uma cantautora promissora da mais nova geração da música nacional.

A doçura e a tranquilidade presentes nas vozes embalam e hipnotizam-nos, com uma melodia leve e quase infantil. A letra remete para a coragem de continuar a tentar, mesmo sabendo que se vai cair muitas vezes a caminho dos sonhos.

Ambas as artistas vêm do universo do jazz e a escolha de Luís Figueiredo para assinar a produção vinca ainda mais a marca desse género musical neste novo registo. Elisa destaca-se como uma artista completa que define cada vez mais a sua identidade estética, sem se limitar ao exercício de estilo das suas referências.

Elisa Rodrigues encontra-se a trabalhar no novo EP que deverá ser lançado em breve. Entretanto vai atuar no Festival Soul de Inverno, no dia 18 de Novembro, na Casa das Artes de Famalicão. No dia 25 de Novembro sobe ao palco do Teatro Micaelense, nos Açores.

BIOGRAFIA

Elisa Rodrigues surge em 2011 com o seu álbum de estreia, “Heart Mouth Dialogues”, após vários anos de estudos musicais e participações em projetos ligados ao jazz. Com o disco de estreia apresenta uma linguagem personalizada que traduzia o gosto de múltiplas referências e uma aprendizagem com influências distintas, em especial aquela que lhe valeu, sobretudo no meio musical, passar a ser identificada como uma voz do jazz. Foi pouco tempo depois recrutada para gravar com a banda britânica These New Puritans no álbum “Field Of Reeds”, de 2013, acabando por integrar depois a digressão intercontinental do grupo.

Deixou a sua impressão digital em palcos internacionais de grande visibilidade como o do Barbican (em Londres) ou no mítico Hollywood Bowl, em Los Angeles. Por cá marcou presença em diversos festivais como o Vodafone Mexefest, Cool Jazz, MED, Douro Jazz.

Em 2018, Elisa Rodrigues lançou “As Blue As Red” o seu segundo disco de longa-duração, no qual colaboraram nomes que já passaram pelo Festival da Canção nas edições dos últimos anos como Luísa Sobral, Joana Espadinha ou Pedro da Silva Martins.

Em breve Elisa Rodrigues prepara-se para lançar o seu novo trabalho, do qual faz parte o single “Sonhar”.

Höröyá’s fourth album is called Grigri Ba – “the great spell” or “the great sorcerer” in Malinke, one of the languages of the Mandeng culture, a key influence of the band. In this album, Höröyá presents
complex rhythms in a harmonious and fluid way through a mixture of afrobeat and afrojazz. This mix consolides the group’s avant-garde style: AfroBrazilian Beat, uniting Brazil and Africa in an unprecedented way, with depth and cultural affirmation. With a unique artistic proposal, bringing the traditional and the modern together, Grigri Ba appeals to a wide audience ranging from Pop to Funk/Jazz.

The group performs both on large party stages or festivals, as well as in theaters. The show’s format favors the participation of guest artists, musicians and dancers, making the performances even more vibrant. With their fourth album, Horoya has fully emerged as a powerhouse in Brazil’s music scene, bringing again to the fore the cultural and historic identity connecting the two sides of the Atlantic.

Höröyá is from São Paulo and formed by Brazilian and West African musicians, connecting different cultures and establishing a dialogue between Brazil and the African continent. André “Piruka”, multi instrumentalist, is the creator of the group and the conception of the musicality. Behind Höröyá’s musical force is a powerful mix of percussion instruments from different cultures, such as sabar, atabaque, djembe, cuica and dunduns. They share space with instruments of African Griots, including balafon and ngoni, along with guitars, bass, trumpet and saxophones. Höröyá’s music creates a permanent contact between different traditions, while keeping their essence. Through music, Höröyá reinterprets in a new format the origins and influences of the African and Afro-Brazilian cultures.
